Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

We are looking to expand our Physical Education Program at Nicholson Elementary. Nicholson is an inner-city school in Chicago where the students don't receive much exposure to sports other than jump rope and basketball. We are looking for more equipment for the students to play with that will expand their athletic abilities. Teaching different lessons will help the students realize that there are many activities they can do when they are older to stay physically fit. Right now, we are looking for bowling equipment we can use inside the gym during the winter season. There are about 30 students per class, so 5 bowling sets would be needed to accommodate one class. A bowling set would include 10 pins and one rubber bowling ball. The bowling unit would take at least 4 weeks to teach. Again, I think the students would benefit from different activities in Physical Education. Adding a bowling unit to the Physical Education Curriculum would be a fun activity for the students, as well as learning something new and different.
