This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a 3-5 grade teacher in an urban Alabama city. I teach students who for the most part reduced or free lunch.
Many students that come to me have not been exposed to going to the library or being read to at home. Therefore, they have not developed a love for reading. They see reading as something boring that you do in school.
I feel like these materials will help me finish off a great reading center in my room where students are motivated to come to the center and pick up a book. I feel like the bookshelf will help me display content books in a way that students can see all that is available to them. In addition, the chairs will allow students to get comfortable and enjoy reading.
You will help bring the joy of reading to many children who would not ordinarily have an enjoyable place to read for years to come.
