I am a new 6th grade teacher at a Public School in Far Rockaway, Queens. It is the neighborhood I grew up in and the neighborhood I still love. I feel a connection to this neighborhood, this school and these children. They are the reason I became a teacher. My 27 students are extremely eager and wish to experience all they can from education. I was amazed to see how much my students love to read. Being a new teacher, I had only a small collection of books for a sixth grade library. My school was able to provide me with books to help complete our classroom library. But, my students and I take reading seriously, and have read through our library! We make weekly trips to our school library, and in the spring will return to the neighborhood library. However, we are in desperate need of more books to help build our classroom library. I want my students to be able to experience everything they can, and reading is definitely an experience I want them to be excited about!
