I currently teach high school social studies classes in a school which is in the process of improving the transition for our incoming freshman students.

With the computers I now have available to my classes I am trying to break the mold of what a social studies class looks and feels like. With the availability of a laptop lab I am able to bring computers straight to the students in my classroom. I would like to help them learn some of the current trends such as digital photo and video editing, however I currently only have 2 digital photo cameras available for all my classes. I would like to put a camera in every students hand at least once a term.

I need 3 digital cameras to add to the two I currently have. This would enable me to assign digital photo essays as part of my class instead of an option only a few are able to complete. Having five cameras means I can put a camera in each student's hand during a two week period.

With your donation my students will have an opportunity to create stories through photos. This will increase each students connection to their education by empowering them to have the responsibility of having a quality digital camera at their disposal. The two cameras I currently have are signed out by students all year long. This only provides a few opportunities for a few students. By increasing the number of cameras I have for students to sign out I will be increasing the opportunities for student centered lessons and hopefully increase their curiosity and imagination.
