Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach general music at a K-8 school in Colorado. We are located in a low income area and many of our students deal with the problems of poverty in their homes. English is a second language for many of our students and their participation in music, especially guitar, allows them an opportunity to express themselves in a way that is not hindered by their English proficiency. Some of my students have done quite well in learning the fundamentals of classical guitar playing. My students need 20 music stands to be able to use during their guitar and other instrumental music classes.

The number of students participating in band and orchestra has risen dramatically this year so we did not have enough music stands for everyone. Therefore my guitar and recorder students had to sit on the floor so they could read their music and other instructional materials.

Receiving 20 new music stands would allow my students to properly learn classical guitar technique, playing with correct posture, and would end their need to sit on the floor to read their music. Once they learn the proper classical guitar technique they can easily transfer what they have learned to other kinds of guitar playing.

Please help my students learn to play their guitars properly with new music stands to hold their music and instructional materials.
