I am a Special Education teacher for 4th and 5th grade students with learning disabilities. I am seeking funding for Science books that will enable my students to understand scientific concepts, foster differentiated instruction, small group projects and independent research.

As a teacher, you accumulate the resources that your students need. Next year I am making a change from working with middle school students, to working with elementary students. This is a truly exciting move for me, yet I do not have any science materials that cover 4th and 5th grade curriculum. Working with students in Special Education requires modifying instruction. Textbooks are not constructed for differentiated instruction. Over the years I have become familiar with authors, publishers and formats of books in subject specific contents that my students have been able to process. Creating lessons that are engaging from books with detailed photographs has been very useful for my visual learners and low-leveled readers.

I have researched science books that cover the areas relating to the 4th and 5th grade curriculum. These books have large print, many photographs and written in simple language. Having a science library that is inviting and understandable will allow my students to produce independent reports and projects.

Thank you for giving my classroom the materials needed to discover all the scientific wonders in the world around them.
