Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I'm the technology teacher at a public school in a major city in Illinois that is populated with low income families. The majority of my students don't have the luxury of computers at home, hence it sort of makes me the school favorite as teachers go, right behind gym and recess.

My students love to visit my lab every day to use the computers. We only have one computer lab for the whole school, with each class allotted 40 minutes once a week for half of the school year. It makes it impossible for students to learn beyond the basics. What I would like to have my students do is integrate technology with other major subjects. I want my students to excel as writers, reporters and photographers. I am establishing a computer club so my students can record all special events and extra curriculum activities in our school and be posted on our school wbsite.

A digital camera with a printer dock will help us record all our projects and special events. Furthermore, it will give the students the opportunity to take home photos that they can show to their parents. Hopefully, this will give them motivation to save their allowance and buy their own digital camera.

Your help will make it possible for my students to have firsthand experience with digital cameras,which most of them don't have the advantage of having one at home, also it will help them focus and be more creative. especially if they know that their projects will be posted on the school website.
