This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a first grade teacher at T.C. Berrien Elementary school in Fayetteville, North Carolina. It is a year round school where 97% of the students recieve free or reduce lunch.
My goal for this year is to create a highly motivated reading environment. I am determined to have my students become fluent readers before they enter second grade.
I would like to have the opportunity to have my students use a variety of resources to help enhance and encourage reading fluency. Reading is a very complicated skill that some students in my classroom have difficultly achieving.
A resource that can be a great activity to use is the leap frog pads. Leap frog pads will help the struggling reader gain independence and confidence in reading. This resource will help my students learn the skills they need to read books independently.
I enjoy reading to my students and want them to experience how reading helped me become the person I am today. Reading can help them escape from some of the problems they might face at home and show them their educational and career choices in upper grades.
I would love my students to have the opportunity to use a resource that is fun and they are able to work at their own pace and pick an activity that they enjoy. They would enjoy using the pointer and having it read a story to them or assist them when needed.
My goal is to have 6 leapfrog pads in my classroom with a variety of story books and phonic books to enhance my 4 blocks reading center. In four blocks I teach guided reading, while the students work in centers to do selective reading, writing, phonics.
I feel that it will help students to work independently or with a partner to improve their reading skills. They will get one on one assistance when needed and affirmation that they can do it alone or with a partner.
I want my students to have this resource because I strongly believe in the product. I can use it to enhance any reading or writing skill that is used in our North Carolina Curriculum and feel that it will benefit all types of differientiated instruction you use.
