I am a new mathematics teacher for Knightdale HS in the rural eastern part of Wake County, North Carolina. Knightdale is a brand new school, and this year will have 9th, 10th and 11th grade only, with next year introducing the 12th grade. The poulation is about 50% minority. At my previous school I had individual white boards for the students to do their practice problems on. I could not take the boards with me and am in need of new ones. Providing students with individual white boards, along with the markers and erasers for there proper use, allows me to easily view responses from all students at a glance, thereby freeing me to target the students in need and allowing the ones who are able to go on to go on. The students enjoy this written medium and are more likely to participate than using paper and pencil, even though they are the same problems! I have had a lot of success in the past with the boards, even with students who are most likely to not participate, and see no reason to discontinue that success simply because there is no funding. If I have to I'll purchase them myself, but if anyone is willing to help I would be very thankful!
