Mrs. Lineberger from Winston Salem NC is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

A Glimpse of India

My students need 24 books about India to learn about the culture and heritage of this country. Many of our students now have immigrated from India and the rest of the students need to learn about this wonderful country.

I teach students in grades K-5 as the media coordinator in a large urban school. Our school is truly multinational, with students from all over the world. We have a strong ESL program, but I feel a strong need for students of all backgrounds to learn about various cultures. We have recently had a lot of immigrants from India and our media center does not have resources to help us understand and value this culture.

It is difficult to share the knowledge of a culture as varied and interesting as that of India without resources. We have a very few, mostly outdated, books and other materials featuring India but not nearly enough for our school of over 960 students. Our community recently hosted a celebration of Indian-American culture/heritage, and many of our students attended with their families. There was a great deal of interest after this, and I would like to be able to help them read about India.

Right now I need BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS! The students are asking questions and expressing interest, especially with our many new students from Calcutta. I would love to be able to support this need to know.

You can help by giving me the opportunity to share a love of reading with the rich experience of learning about the home of Mother Teresa and Gandhi. Thank you for reading this proposal.
