Stepping To The Beat

My students need 2 Competitor Series Marching Snare Drums to use in a marching band for local parades.

Help us to step to the beat and march to the drums! I am a Pre-K teacher and assistant cheerleader & pompon coach at an urban elementary school. I assist the coaching of 17 cheerleaders and pompon girls; grades two through five. Over the past years we have won several awards in our school district and participated in many parades.

As a result of participating in our cheerleader and pompon program many of our girls have improved in behavior as well as academic achievement, and their self-esteem has blossomed. There is no better way than to prepare our students to compete in the world than with positive activities which promote strong self-esteem and pride, resulting in positive behaviors, student achievement, and productive citizens. Just this past month we participated in a city-wide parade. Our girls were interviewed and photographed with the Mayor by several of the local papers. The girls were congratulated for their outstanding performance, appearance, demeanor, and speaking abilities. However, our girls were asked several times, "Where is your band?"

Our cheerleader and pompon girls have one desire and that is to step to a beat. The girls need drums in which they can march to during parades. The students wanted to have fund raisers to purchase the drums, but because of school district requirements, we cannot have fund raisers. The girls need snare drums to begin our marching band, and the parents of our students are not able to support our students financially. Our girls have even identified students within the school to play the instruments.

Acquiring these drums would afford our students the joy and happiness they so deserve when representing our school. Your help will ensure our cheerleaders and pompon girls a stronger sense of positive self esteem, excitement and pride. Providing snare drums for our students will also be the catalyst to encourage other students to participate in our cheerleader, pompon, and band, which will promote a spirit of teamwork, great pride, and accomplishment for all students for many years to come!
