Mustangs Listen in to Read Along 1

My students need 8 personal CD players to listen to audio books while reading along.

  • $543 goal

This project expired on September 24, 2008.

I teach second grade at a high-need elementary school with an increasing number of English Language Learners.

My students enjoy being read to, but many parents do not have the time to read aloud to their children or are unable to read the English language. We also have a lack of volunteers to read with students. We have just acquired over 200 books of various levels on compact disks, but do not have personal CD players. My goal during our reading block is to keep students engaged in individualized, literature rich experiences through reading independently, reading with a partner, and listening to reading while I am working on specific skills and strategies with small reading groups.

By supplying students with personal CD players students will not be hindered by our lack of volunteers to read with them. Students will be able to choose a book to read along with as they listen to the CD. Another advantage of listening to a story on a CD player is that students can control the volume and can repeat sections as necessary. They also will not be hindered by absences because they can simply pick up where they left off during their last listening time.

Through your generous donation students will have access to our collection of audio books and be able to listen to hundreds of stories that they otherwise would only be able to hear a mere fraction of.
