Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

As a fourth grade teacher, I have recently felt the excessive pressure for my students to measure up to the New York State learning standards. This includes the NY state science standards. As fourth graders, my students must take a New York State science test in May 2005, and it is pretty hard to meet the standards when you have no science materials. My school is a Title 1 school in the Bronx and we are in need of science materials. My students love science, especially when we are able to perform experiments! By having items such as microscopes, simple machines, and scales, my students will be able to learn hands-on, as well as have fun. Obtaining materials like these will allow my students to take part in whole group science lessons, as well as use the materials in a science center. The materials will also give them many ideas for at home science experiments and practice for the fourth grade NY state science exam!
