I teach fifth grade at an urban Charter School in Pennsylvania. Many students come from a high-needs background. We are a year-round school.

My students are very curious about the "Great Outdoors," but lack experience with outdoor adventure. When we read stories or books that are set in the wilderness, they become completely lost. This hurts them when it comes to reading poems or story selection that have to do with this topic.

To better acquaint students with the outdoors, I want to teach the book "Bridge to Terabithia." I think that this will be a good introductory book to teach about outdoor adventure that is not as foreign as books that are set completely in the wilderness. In a few months, we have a "camping" trip planned for the students and I want them to be exposed to this book before we go.

You will help my students to connect with the beauty and magic that is possible outdoors. This will broaden their world view and help them see that the woods do not have to be a scary place.
