Nevada Map

My students need paint, plastic bags, markers, and pipe cleaners to complete the state of Nevada map. The paint will be used to paint the background of the plywood board used for the map. The plastic bags will hold the small rolled balls of colored paper that will make up the different counties. The pipe cleaners will be glued along the county borders to help define them better when the colors are added. The markers will be used to write the counties, state and national parks on the side of the map.

I teach 4th grade in a high-need community. Many of our students come from single parent homes, and the parents spend much of their time working.

I would like my students to make a map of Nevada to have displayed in our gym for years to come. There has never been anything like this done before and it would be a great addition to our school. I have talked to the principal about this project and he has shown interest in it, but has indicated that if we were to do this then I would have to supply everything needed for the map.

The map we are planning on making will be about 3 feet by 5 feet. It will show all of the counties, state parks and national parks in the state of Nevada. This project will help reinforce what we have been learning throughout our study of Nevada History this year.

By donating to this project my students will get to see this project come to life and they will be proud of themselves every time they walk into the gym and see the map that they made. I am also hoping that this map will be displayed for years to come and then to also add to it by creating other works of art having to do with our state. (State Seal, State Flag, etc.)
