Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

How many of you still have a cassette player at home? Not many I bet. Unfortunately, most of the technology that schools still have is considered "dead." I am a middle-school music teacher in New York State. I work an a high-needs school district with a high ESL population. Our students come from all walks of life and many different challenges.

The only equipment we have to record sound right now is a cassette recorder that I brought in from home. It is ten years old, so the quality is poor. It would be wonderful to be able to record our musicals and listen to them afterward as a group to analyze how well we did and what we could improve on for the next show.

The voice recorder that I am requesting could be used to record accompaniment for students to practice their solos for productions or for solo competitions, or even to record student performances of the school's musical and Cabaret night. This way, our students could have a copy of their performance to take home or download from iTunes for free. For that matter, the students could also have relatives who couldn't make the concert download their songs from iTunes. Also, we could easily record the different harmonies, the accompaniment or whatever section would best help the student learn their part, and they could take it home, or even download it off of our website or iTunes. The possibilities we would have if we had this voice recorder would be endless.
