We're Learning to Listen in a Visual World! I teach kindergarten to 16 children. Most of my students are exposed to visual media such as video games, computer, and or DVD's. We'd like to go back to simpler times and become better listeners, but need your help!

Differentiated Instruction, as well as societal influences (lack of listening skills), have challenged my classroom management skills this year. As I try to work with small groups other children are often noisy, off task, or interrupting me for help with their "independent" work. My current CD/cassette player requires me to use an object (other than the eject button) to eject the tape! This results in me leaving my small group to take care of the listening center. A new player would allow me to teach the students how to run it and free me of interruptions during group time.

A student friendly listening center will allow children to be on task, obtain listening skills needed for comprehension, and refine listening skills without the use of such dramatic visual stimulation in today's society.

Your support would be vital in improving the listening skills that so many children are lacking in today's world. What better way to do this than providing them with books to increase their reading skills as well!
