Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our brand new middle school Speech/Theatre program is located in an urban, predominately Latino community. Our Title I school holds over 1000 energetic students (more than 70% are on the free and reduced lunch program). Some of the middle school children are already in gangs. I run an after-school theatre program that helps children become confident public speakers.

Our children, though given many opportunities to resort to criminal activities, want desperately to learn more about theater technology. Currently, our drama department lighting system has two settings...on and off.

Let's get our children off the streets and onto the stage! If I had more technical theater options to offer the kids, I could get more kids involved. The lights and dimming system I have chosen will allow students to hang, focus, and control lights for play productions. More advanced students can also learn light design.

You will allow children create their own quality performances. This will hopefully keep them off the streets and teach them that they do not need a gang to feel like they belong.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
