I am a technology specialist of grades kindergarten to fifth grade. I teach each grade level and focus on preparing the students to be 21st Century Learners. Our student body mainly is from a low income background and are at risk. 60 percent of the students are on free or reduced lunch.

Many parents in our school work hours that prevent them from attending school functions and parent conferences. Our school would like to create e-portfolios that a student can print out and take home with them to show parents his/her work. Our goal is to increase parent involvement and understanding of where the student is academically.

Our solution is to use digital photography to document the student work, activities, and learning experiences. Students will take this information home in the form of print outs or in some cases CD ROMs (for those that have computer access) to review the material. Students may explain what is on the disk and teachers will add comments, questions, and suggestions to the portfolio for parents to see. Parents will complete a short form to communicate with the school. This does not replace Parent/Teacher conferences, but it creates another way for the school and parents to communicate.

Your assistance in will make it possible for our school to open up the home school communications and have parents become actively involved in the learning experience. Thank you for considering our school.
