I teach a third grade classroom in upstate New York. My school is located in a low socio-economic community. My school is considered an at-risk school and is about 60% free and reduced lunch.

I like to play music for my students throughout the day. I have a set of classical brain researched CDs that stimulate the students to be 'productive', 'creative', 'motivated', and 'think' while they work. I am currently using a half broken CD player that randomly works. I have been forced to be inconsistent in the way in which I play music for my students during certain lessons. I also do not have a listening center with headphones for my students who have learning needs/styles are most successful with audio technology.

My students and I would be most grateful to have an all in one audio equipment piece that allows us to play music from CDs, cassette tapes (to listen to books on tapes),as well as possibly playing an AM/FM radio. Headphones will allow the students complete an independent activity working in a small group while I have my reading groups in the back of the room.

This is a special request for a CD/listening center to be available for my students in my classroom. My students would benefit from this so that they could work with their peers independently in a small group during my reading instruction. I taught in Nevada where audio equipment was provided for all classroom teachers. Now that I live and work in New York my school does not provide a listening center with headphones for the students. In order for me to provide this kind of technological learning aid, I would have to buy it out of my own pocket and that is very difficult for me right now.
