"Using powers he acquired in a freak accident, Max teaches science in ways never before seen in a classroom." I teach a wonderful group of over 100 seventh grade students who mostly come from rural areas and over 50% are on free or reduced lunches. Our students are working as hard as any students in the country to make sure they are not left behind.

Many of the students in our school struggle with reading. It's not always because of their ability, but often due to a lack of interest in the reading they are doing. High interest reading, especially in science, is rare and students often do very little science reading outside of the classroom. I have noticed that many of my students do read outside of class and much of that reading comes from high interest materials: comics, fantasy, sci-Fi, and others.

My goal is to bring high interest reading materials into my classroom through a series of comic books called "Max Axiom Super Scientist." I believe that having a classroom set of this series of books will lead not only to improved reading but improved science knowledge as well. I have a single copy of one of the books in this series and it stays checked out constantly. Having a complete library of these would make high interest science reading available to more of my students, this year and for years to come.

You will make it possible for my students to have access to truly high interest science reading materials which over time will improve reading and science ability in all my students.
