I teach 4th grade at an urban school in California. My school has a diverse ethnic population of African-Americans, Asians, Hispanic, and White students. My school provides specialized services to English language learners and students with disabilities. About 45% of our students are socioeconomically disadvantaged. We are Title 1 school in our state. My school is also a SAIT school (year 2). We are under state supervision as a result of low test scores.

I have many students who struggle with long division in math. They often become discouraged quickly and refuse to try again. I would like to have small groups on the rug with individual lapboards (small whiteboards) for all students who struggle with long division steps. I believe these lapboards will engage more student interest. I also can assess my students more efficiently when they are solving math problems like long division. I can definitely see where the students are making mistakes in these long steps. I believe math can be fun for all students. For those students who think they are not good at math, I need to bring fun resources like these lapboard to motivate them to try harder in math.

My students need 31 lapboards, 31 whiteboard markers, and 31 whiteboard erasers. My goal is for each student to have 1 lapboard, 1 black whiteboard marker, and 1 whiteboard eraser. These resources will help my students to stay focused and engaged on difficult math lessons like long division.

You will make it possible for my students to stay engaged on math lessons. You will also help them to feel confident about their math skills.
