I am the Functional Reading teacher for the PAT Academy program at R.A. Jamieson. Within my class we focus on functional reading tasks that will help students function at a more independent level and help them to be able to obtain and maintain a job. We work on skills pertaining to personal information, job applications, and resumes. We also address various current event topics to be aware of the world around us. We also work on other life skills relating to self care, functional living tasks relating to cooking and cleaning, among other tasks. On a weekly basis students are able to go out into the community to work on applying appropriate functional skills within the community. Students also go to various work sites to work on developing skills to obtain a job in the future.
