  • Mobile Science Station With Sink

My proposal needs a Mobile Science Lab Unit with Sink.

Dear Donor, I am an 11th grade advanced Biology Teacher at City Arts and Technology High school in the Ingleside district of San Francisco. The actual building is an Old Catholic Elementary School that we are renting and has no lab classrooms. Therefore I have no lab benches, sinks or gas in my class. The greatest challenge and concern I face day to day is the lack of a sink. During the 2006-2007 school year my class did dozens of labs ranging from testing the effects of alcohol on fruit flies to genetically modifying bacteria with a jellyfish gene that caused the bacteria to glow green when exposed to UV light. For every lab we did I never had a sink for students to use. My classroom is on the 3rd floor and the only student restrooms are on the first floor. Therefore my students had to go down and up two flights of stairs in order to wash their hands. Not only was this a large waste of time but also is a serious concern with regards to student safety. Today I am requesting the Nasco Mobile Science Laboratory Unit, which contains a self-contained sink unit. The addition of this unit to my classroom, will not only save valuable class time I will also be helping to ensure a safe environment for my students. Finally there is a secondary benefit to this mobile unit in my class. I can use it to do classroom demonstrations since I have no other laboratory furniture in my classroom. No other lab furniture is necessary since I teach Biology and not the other sciences. I thank you for your time and consideration and sincerely hope you can help make my science class more into a science lab to increase the effectiveness of the labs we do next year by saving valuable class time and helping to ensure student safety.
