It's hard enough to deal with a bully, but what do you do when the bully knows your phone number or posts about you on the Internet?
My students are amazing!
On paper it looks like they have everything going against them. Our school has almost half of the students receiving free or reduced lunch. They speak English and 20 other languages. In spite of all this we have talented athletes & musicians and future doctors and lawyers--they just need our help getting there!
My Project
My students are spending more and more of their time using digital media. Unfortunately, as they use their phones and computers, threats have also moved online. It's hard to focus on your math class when you are worrying about people texting a picture of you or using the internet to spread rumors about you! In just a few short years, my students have reported such a large increase of cyberbullying that our resources have become outdated. I am requesting games that teach kids about cyberbullying, problem solving cards that can help students be proactive and prepared for a bullying situation before it happens and books to build a resource library for concerned teachers and parents.
Studies have shown that students who are bullied have a much harder time doing well in school-including kids who are cyberbullied!
We desperately need resources that will help keep pace with the digital world kids are living in today so that they can be successful.
