Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My preschool students do not have access to enough technology in the classroom and they would benefit from using an iPad to facilitate the learning process.

My students are three to five years old and attend their neighborhood public school in a high poverty area of the city.

The majority of them are English language learners who speak Spanish as their native language. I also have two refugee students from Iraq and Burma who speak Arabic and Karen. No matter what they speak or where they come from, all of my students are eager learners who enjoy being challenged.

My Project

Currently, my students do not have access to technology in the classroom and the addition of an iPad would impact their learning experience in a positive way. Last week, I saw the Special education teacher using an iPad as she worked with one of my students and his face lit up as he used it for the first time. I was so amazed at how focused and engaged he was as he used the iPad. I heard him speak more during that short session than he usually does during the entire class period. At that moment I realized that my students are missing out on opportunities to use technology in the classroom. Having an iPad would enhance the learning experience of all of my students, whether they are English language learners or have special needs.

Since my students come from low-income households, it is likely that they do not have access to this type of technology in their homes.

Currently, this is also the case at school, but that can change with your generous donation. Please help inspire my students through the use of cutting-edge technology in the classroom that will set a foundation for the skills they need to compete in the 21st century.
