Help me give my students an inspirational space in the classroom to write collaboratively and/or individually on topics that they learn and care about. We'll be researching and writing on current events topics.
My students arrive each day full of eager enthusiasm for new exploration in their world of learning. They come from a diverse variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Some arrive as English Language Learners with a very limited understanding of the language. The Intermediate Learning Center integrates its students into my classroom for science, writing, homeroom, and specials. These students struggle with social-emotional issues while trying to learn the challenging curriculum. Their diagnoses include a wide range on the Autism Spectrum. Frequent movement and hands-on activities are important prerequisites to their learning.
My students have expressed interest and enthusiasm for engaging in written work that helps to make the world a better place.
Students now have access to their own Chromebook. This availability has greatly increased the students' interest in writing and editing their written work. This is especially true when the writing assignments serve a real-world purpose, rather than just for receiving a grade.
My Project
Collaborative writing will inspire students to interact using the Clover Leaf Write/On Wipe/Off table to share and build on one another's ideas. Individual writing desks allow students to work independently.
Writing to enhance positive change in the world gives the effort a purpose that motivates students to make a difference with their words.
In a society that needs peaceful means to problem-solving, the pen (or keyboard) is mightier than the sword (or other weapons).
My students will learn how to make a difference in their world by studying environmental issues using scientifically based research to validate and submit their writing efforts.
