My students are fourth and fifth graders who love learning.
They all come from very diverse homes and backgrounds.
Many of my students come from families where they themselves or their parents have immigrated to the United States. Therefore, their first language is not English. While our families are very supportive of their students, because of the language barrier between school and home, many students struggle to get the extra support, materials, and opportunities they need to strengthen their reading skills. In addition to these challenges, over 50% of our students also come from low income households. However, even with all the challenges that my students face, they are all wonderful hardworking kids who love to learn, discover, and read!
My Project
The first way this printer will be used in our classroom is to produce learning materials for my students that will be displayed in our classroom. These materials are important for all students, but are particularly valuable for my English language learners. It is important to provide a vibrant and fun learning environment for my students and in a building as old has ours vibrancy can be hard to find.
In addition to a more vibrant classroom, this printer will also give my students a way to add create more colorful and dynamic projects.
One of the most memorable and powerful projects my students complete each year are their research projects on countries and notable people. What makes these projects so special is the vibrant color photos added to their presentations. However, since many of my students don't have access to color printers at home, they rely on me to print what they need to make their projects that much more amazing. After doing these projects for years, my previous printer finally died. I would love to replace our old printer, so that my students this year and for years to come will have the opportunity to produce such beautiful projects.
This printer will help make our learning space one that students are happy to come to and feel excited to learn, and provide them the opportunity to create truly amazing demonstrations of their learning.
