Help me give my students engaging new periodicals to read in class! Storyworks Magazine is full of stories geared specifically toward our 5th grade readers and features nonfiction, poetry, current events, and topics to debate!
Our students are excited about learning, and we want to channel that excitement toward their reading! Our students come from many different walks of life, and we firmly believe each and every one of them can fall in love with reading if they are given the opportunity.
At our Title I school, many children are not exposed to reading for pleasure at home, and my goal is to help create a classroom environment that changes their perceptions of reading; they will begin to see reading as a form of entertainment and a lifelong pastime.
My Project
Our number one goal for our 5th grade students is to help them fall in love with reading and develop a life-long passion for wonderful books! By building our classroom libraries with engaging, high-quality books and magazines, it's easy for students to find one that's a perfect-fit.
Storyworks Magazine is a great way to "hook" readers - with its eye-catching graphics, engaging topics, and story lines centered around kids.
Many of our students don't have the benefit of a literacy-rich home, and our classroom library is a sort of home-away-from-home - a cozy environment, full of wonderful books where reading is celebrated and shared. You never know what book might be the one that will spark a lifetime of reading, but we know this year's Bluebonnet nominees have some wonderful contenders that will help us build an amazing library!
