My kindergarteners have just begun their education in a high poverty, Title I elementary school. Many of them have come from homes where there are few books, little food and much trauma. They may not even feel safe at home. These children are so excited to come to school each day! Our classroom is like a sanctuary for them.
As they bounce into the room each morning their faces are smiling and they are asking, "What are we going to do today?" They cannot wait to start the day's activities.
They are high energy children who love to learn!
My Project
Five and six year olds especially love to do art projects. It is the highlight of their day! They will always complete their "work" to get to the project table. Not a day goes by that we do not utilize construction paper. While they are having fun, the children do not even realize that they are continuing their work.
Literacy skills are truly the foundation of the work we do in kindergarten.
With construction paper, students will be able to create appropriate responses to books read aloud to them, design All About Me posters, and design creative letter projects.
All students deserve access to the tools necessary to do their best learning and in kindergarten those basic tools start with simple paper for letting their little imaginations run wild.
