As a teacher in a low-income school, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. My students are all served under 504 or an IEP (Individual Education Plan) because of a disability whether it is dyslexia and/or other disabilities. Despite the challenges they face every day, I am looking to keep things effortless and offer my students innovative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are intelligent, creative, and clever but learn differently.
They like playing games, they love to be read to and need lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised by a single parent or both parents who have to work one or more jobs for basic needs. My students receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. From the minute they walk in the door, we focus on their potential and growth as a person and as a student. Learning is a life endeavor not just inside the classroom. Therefore, it is vital to help my students find their purpose and inspire life-long learning with academic excellence.
My Project
My students have reading difficulties and find it hard to read books that others are reading. Some of them work hard but still seem to not be able to read with their grade level peers. With Chromebooks, my students will follow along with an audio book that their peers are also reading which will increase their reading ability.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student reading ability, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
This will change the students' lives for the better. They will love learning and feel successful while having fun reading!
