As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to help them develop an interest in school and learning. All my students are below grade level in reading and are struggling in their classes. Many have disabilities and have trouble focusing for longer than a few minutes. Education is not a priority in many of their homes and education isn't valued.
My Project
My students are very uncomfortable sitting at a traditional desk and chair. They love to be able to move and sit/lay in a variety of positions that help them to be more relaxed when they are working. The fidget band allows them to move their legs and get some of the wiggles out while still working. The plush bean bag chairs will give them the ability to sit or lay in a comfortable position to do classwork.
By giving students a comfortable safe place to work they are able to be more focused.
This is a win-win for everyone involved. The students are comfortable and focused on their work and I am able to teach all these wiggling bodies! These 2 items will allow options based on their own personal needs and preferences and will help make the classroom a homey comfortable place for them to work.
