Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my preschool classroom are sweet and have a ton of energy. My classroom is a special education classroom and a majority of my students are English language learners. I teach at a Title I school where all of my students receive free lunch.
My students are eager to learn and on Fridays the students beg for their homework folders because they are excited about learning and enjoy doing homework.
Regardless of the background my kids are from, they enter the classroom with a smile on their faces ready to start the day!
My Project
The adaptive equipment for the dolls will play a huge roll in the social and emotional development of my students. I have two students in wheelchairs, one with a visual impairment, one who is hard of hearing and another little girl who wears a helmet while walking outside. My students use the same equipment that can be placed on the dolls and it will help them feel loved and respected. My students will understand they are not alone and that in our classroom we accept all students. My students have a hard time communicating and they use dolls and other toys to express themselves. The dolls are multiethnic which will expose my students to diversity as well.
The equipment will not only benefit the students who use it in their daily lives by making them feel connected and accepted, but also those who do not use the equipment will have a better understanding of its purpose and that we will love and respect our friends who use equipment.
I want all my students to feel loved and to never feel alone or different. These materials will make a difference in my students' learning because research shows students learn when they are in an environment where they feel happy, safe and accepted. The dolls and their equipment will support my students in feeling happy, safe and accepted.
