My students need 39 high quality books for read-alouds and independent reading time with titles from "The Ghost-Eye Tree" to "The Fantastic Undersea Life of Jacques Cousteau".

My school is located in a diverse neighborhood.
In addition to the rich diversity, we are a lower income school. To meet the challenges of our population we have embarked on an extended day program to ensure our children are receiving the best education possible. I have also embarked on a new challenge this year...a new grade. I teach twenty second graders that have a thirst for literature.
My Project
I am asking for your help to provide these students with some independent reading series books and a broad selection of biography books for read-alouds and models for writer's workshop. They love the Henry and Mudge series and M & M series books. Once they read one they want to read the whole series!
Through biographies they learn about important people in history. Biographies inspire, teach us about time and place and and bring history to life. These books create an excellent model for their own writing.
