My Students

My students are a small group of seniors in a very small, rural school, who have chosen to finish their high school mathematics careers with a class that focuses on improving their mathematical understanding in real world situations.

Each of my students has a very different plan after graduation, including totally undecided, a gap year, military service, and traditional 4 year college, but they all need a solid foundation in financial literacy that will help them to become successful adults.

My Project

Many of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and do not have knowledge of or access to financial planning resources. They need exposure and training in this area to give them another tool in their personal finance tool belt that will improve their chances of becoming successful, financially stable adults.

Learning by doing is a relevant and appropriate avenue to financial literacy; giving my students the opportunity to participate in The Stock Market Game could give them the confidence to participate in this arena as adults.

Learning from experiences that are driven by their own decisions will be particularly powerful.
