Have you ever left somewhere with a desire to know more? That is my goal for my students every day.
I am the biology teacher at our high school.
We are a rural high school, serving about 250 students. We are a low-income school district in Missouri, having 50-60% of our students on free and reduced lunch. I have students in grades 9-12 intermixed in my classes. Each year, I have an average of 75 Biology I students, and 35 Biology II students, and 15 Environmental Science students. Of those students, about 15 go on to our Dual Credit College Biology class and do very well.
My Project
With these lab kits and supplies, I will be able to allow students to actually see how alternate forms of energy can work. They get the basic idea, but I feel building these models will actually make them understand that it is an obtainable idea. I think sometimes they do not believe it is all possible, or to what extent it could supply power. Also other supplies would allow us to look at biodiversity, and how energy moves through our ecosystems. These are all environmental issues that I feel really need to be addressed.
They said that educating the children is the first step to making changes tomorrow.
This falls exactly into that idea. In order for changes to actually occur in the future, we have to educate them better about the environment today. Thank you for your support.
