This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." - Nelson Mandela.
Every day my kids walk into my classroom so full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.
They come from various cultures and economic statuses. My kids love to read and write. They just need the "write" tools. I want to give them the resources to read, write, draw, and to be as creative as they can be!
Martin Luther King, Jr. said it best, "The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education."
My goal as an educator is to teach and provide the resources for my students to reach their given potential, in order for them to change the world.
My Project
Reading workshop is a very important part of our day in 2nd grade. Students love being able to choose a comfy place to sit while they are reading. I chose a reading bench for this project that has soft cushions on top. Underneath there are three compartments for storing leveled books from our books library. As our classroom library grows we need additional places to store the books for reading workshop as well as a comfortable and fun place to sit. Having this comfy bench would help students participate and have ownership of the books they choose as well as a choice of where to sit.
