Pump Up the Volume: My 3D Engineers Need Another Printer!
My students need another 3D printer, a laptop, a workstation table, and more plastic filament in order to keep up with the volume of things they are designing and printing for classes and clubs.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are phenomenal. We have a very average mix of ability levels, but what stands out about our kids is their determination and grit. This tight knit group of kids is also extremely compassionate and generous. They worked hard last year organizing several supply drives and doing volunteer work to benefit their community.
They are inquisitive go-getters that are eager to be successful in life, despite any personal hardships they may have had to overcome.
Our school population is sixty-five percent economically disadvantaged and sixty-four percent are Hispanic. Although our area is technically a suburb of Houston, much of our district is still very rural and many of our students live in mobile homes and in flood prone areas. Our school is a unique program in the district and is still pretty new. The students take college classes while still in high school and are able to graduate at the end of four years with an Associate's degree. We have an extremely limited budget that provides for most basic supplies that we need; however, we frequently don't have money for enrichment supplies that really help connect the students with the concepts we teach.
My Project
We received a 3D printer this year and it has been printing up a storm! I've been able to print some instructional materials for teachers while students have been able to print project pieces for classes like art, science and engineering. To really start integrating this 3D printer into the teaching and learning on our campus, we need another printer so we can handle more printing volume. One printer can only print one project at a time and sometimes it takes hours to print just one object. This current printer is going constantly and can't handle any more projects!
3D printing fosters creativity and critical thinking, gives students experience in engineering and design and provides a fun and tactile component to learning!
I'd like to purchase another 3D printer, a laptop with accessories to both run it and use for design, more plastic filament, and a small table for a workstation. I'm very excited to see all the different things that students and teachers can continue to imagine and create as we explore how the 3D printer can improve our instruction. Right now, we just can't do that with one printer.
