Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are wonderful, active learners who challenge themselves everyday. They show me hard work on reading, math, science, and social studies. My students love building things during science time like sailboats, towers, and paper helicopters.
I love to see their faces light up when they have struggled with a problem and finally solved it.
They are deepening their knowledge everyday by teaching each other and not giving up on difficult problems.
Field trips where I work are expensive. My students are from a rural Title 1 school and do not have easy access to museums and cultural experiences. Funding this field trip will be an experience that will bring real world science into their lives.
My Project
My students love science and stem activities. This trip will give us the opportunity to visit a children's hands on science museum.
We will explore the Mythbusters stem exhibit, see an IMAX film about dolphins, and visit all of the hands on stem exhibits.
We will get to explore how science works and test real life models firsthand with the Mythbusters exhibit. We will run Mythbuster style tests in the classroom before the visit. My students will learn about habitats, life cycles, and animal adaptations from the dolphins IMAX film. We will tie this in to a dolphins unit in the classroom. The regular museum exhibits will help us test gravity, simple machines, and other scientific concepts.
