About My Students

Three students led the development of this project (Sean 12th grade, Jermaine 12th grade and Joshua 10th Grade). They are amazing and bright young men. They collaborated under the belief that every student learns differently.

My Digital Media class was tasked to brainstorm and research ideas to be funded. Each student was required to brainstorm an idea, have it approved, research every aspect of the idea, develop a presentation for the class and then vote on the project they would like to be funded. The class originally started with 24 ideas, Jamaine's idea was one of the few students project that won the class vote.

Jermaine's win tasked him to continue his research. Sean and Joshua, was inspired by his idea and agreed to abandon their own projects in support of Jermaine's goal. They believe that students learn in a multitude of ways and bring board games into the classroom will help students work through learning financial literacy and making life decisions.

Students in all business classes will be able to play board games while completing assignments that document their life experiences and help them reflect on life choices while playing the game of Life. The Global Business class will learn financial literacy while playing Monopoly and study the board so they can develop their own game of Foreign Currency Monopoly.

In Their Own Words

The goal is to play board games in class. Monopoly will help us learn financial literacy and Life helps us work through real life decisions. The games will help us make better life decisions and better financial decisions while playing with our friends. It will also help with our social skills since our classroom is all computers we barely get a chance to interact with each other.

I will help manage the distribution and care of the games. I will document the steps taken to have my project funded and encourage more student to become a leaders and apply for new funding projects for other classes. Having my project funded is an award that I can place on my resume, and collage applications.

It is important because we need to understand real life issues and how to manage money. Playing Life gives us a chance to work through those issues with an opportunity to fix the problems. Monopoly gives you a chance to make good and bad financial decisions allowing us a chance to learn with a safety net.
