Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hardworking, bright, young individuals. They attend school each and every day, ready to learn and meet all high expectations. My students love challenges and face difficulties each and every day with smiles on their faces.
My students come from a Title I school with a high population of English learners.
Most come from a low income household and have limited resources and experiences. To many of my students, their only chance of life-enriching activities are at school. They love school and I want to make this place the most enriching place for them!
My Project
Imagine a classroom where students decide what they will learn for the day. They come in the classroom and with their groups, decide what they need accomplish. Groups will explore ideas, researching for details, and enriching their learning with the sole purpose of creating something. My job as the teacher is not to lecture them, but to facilitate them and guide them into finding and using the right information.
Student driven, student centered project based environment has transformed my students' learning and motivation!
Picture, in one group, students are creating their Google Slides frame by frame animation of the water cycle model. When they're ready, they'll write their scripts, use the microphone and shield requested to record themselves explaining the water cycle! With the same microphone, another group will plan a Podcast, with hosts, guests, and experts that will come and discuss the given topic. They'll be busy layer voices with music to produce their podcast.
At another table, students will use the green screen to place themselves into the water cycle. Along with research and writing scripts, these groups of students have to meticulously plan where and how they'll appear in their video; maybe they'll even be the water that cycles through the Earth around and around. The light box will offer students the opportunity to create a 3D model of the water cycle, and create a stop motion video, that they'll have to voice over.
Please help me with providing the equipment to my students, and the possibilities of creative imagination will be endless! Not just in science, but in all subject areas; from Ancient Mesopotamia to Figurative Language devices. My students will not only be self motivated, self driven learners, but they won't even know that they're learning!
