Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students live in a small rural community and are heavily affected by poverty. Many students are bi-lingual and speak English as a second language.

SES is a Title 1 school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch daily.

Although economic hardships are present, our students generally all get along and are very well behaved. SES has school wide high expectations for our students to become educated, successful, active members of the community and work force. We have "community meetings" weekly during school led by our student ambassadors to keep students, teachers, and the community informed and involved.

My Project

With limited space to store wet artwork, our students need a drying rack to put their freshly painted masterpieces! In our busy elementary schedule, rotating classes in and out of the art studio can be challenging, especially when your students have wet artwork. A place designed to allow paintings and other compositions to dry while other classes transition in and out of the studio will make our clean up time more efficient and ultimately improve classroom behavior.

With your help, by adding a drying rack to our art room, I can speed up cleaning times and improve our lack of storage for wet media compositions.

Students will be more independent in caring for their artwork and that of others by having a specific location designated for the storage of wet artwork so other classes can not touch or tamper with artwork laid out on tables or counters.
