This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My school is located within a community that has many daily challenges. There is high crime and poverty. There are not many recreational experiences available for our students. Our students need programs that provide a challenging and positive experience. Our students athletes are special because they are excited about their future even though statistics show and others see their futures as bleak. They enjoy playing ball and look forward to coming to practice. They turned me into a basketball fan! I look forward to seeing their energy, sportsmanship, and skill on the court!

My Project

Donations to this project will mean a lot to the student athletes. It can be challenging to find time in the gym because other programs use it. It is important for the team to have consistent practices to hone their basketball skills and create a strong team. The student athletes need access to the hoops and practice is sometimes cancelled because another program is in the gym. The coach and players can set up the portable hoops almost anywhere in the building or outside and still have practice. The portable hoops can then be conveniently stored away for future practices. The student athletes feel good about being able to play a game they enjoy and they are learning social skills that are essential for collaborating with others.
