Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school where ninety-five percent of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Eighty percent of our students go home to non-English speaking families. Some of our students are the only English speaking people in their family!
I make it my goal every year to supply my students with the supplies they need and hands-on experiences that they wouldn't get elsewhere.
I love it when my students finish an activity and say what a great time they had and how much they learned! Our students are very bright and deserve every opportunity they get!
My Project
Every year at Christmas we get a lot of support from the community to make sure our students have presents on Christmas morning. The kids are provided with lists to have their families fill out and a lot of work is done to help our families.
When students return their wishlist with, "a warm fuzzy blanket for my bed" my heart breaks for them.
Instead of asking for the latest toy they just want to be warm at night.
Every year our third graders tackle the state tests. We always tell the kids to get a good night's sleep, but do they really? I want to ensure that my students are well rested everyday for school. These pillows, pillow cases and blankets will do the trick!
Students will each get a pillow, pillow case and blanket to take home and keep. They'll be warm and rested so they can do their best each day at school.
