Germinating, Growing, and Cloning: A Family Botanical Experiment
My students need seed and plant experiment materials to become the scientists they dream to be- this includes a planter set, seed germination, nutritional, stress, hydroponic, and plant cloning kits, and jiffy pots.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My second graders are all motivated by their unique interests!
They are eager to learn, experiment, and create.
They attend a Chicago Public School located in a high poverty and violence-prone community.
Despite the obstacles they face, they come to school optimistic and ready to engage in the day's activities. As their teacher, I want to instill in them that through education, many challenges can be overcome. They are equally deserving of having as many quality educational experiences as possible in a safe, well-kept environment. Thank you for taking our project into consideration.
My Project
My students bloom with excitement every time the subject of seed and plant growth comes up in our classroom. They talk about how their parents, especially their fathers and uncles, teach them different plant names, their various uses, and tips and tricks to grow them best. My students' families come from countries where agriculture is a way of life; survival itself many times depended on being able to yield crops.
My students and their families yearn for teaching and learning about botany, and these materials will allow me to provide them with the means to do that.
My plan is to create a Parent-Child Botanist Club, where my students' family members will be given the challenge to create a replicable way of growing the best seeds while experimenting following the scientific method. Every week, I will teach the families through a lecture/lab after school focused on one aspect of the scientific method, beginning with asking a question all the way through analyzing the results and drawing conclusions. The process will lead to a culminating event- a Botanist Expo where the Parent-Child Botanist Teams present their findings and promote theirs as the best way to grow seeds. This project will allow the families of my students to share their botanical expertise while learning alongside their child in a school setting-we educators must continually strive to find innovative ways to do so.
