Let's Get Scary and Wimpy Books Keep My Kids Reading!
My students need books they want to read, like Double Down (the new Wimpy Kid book), and Grimly's illustrated versions of classic literature. Basic library supplies (labels, stands, display) help to protect and promote the books!
Every day, students visit my library either with their class or on their own, before school and during lunch. Students rush to my display of new books, and they eagerly check to see if certain popular titles have been returned.
My students come from a variety of family backgrounds and ancestral homes.
Our school isn't in a very affluent section of our district, and many students have irregular access to new books and materials. However, many of my students have a real love of reading, a love somewhat hindered by the difficulty in obtaining good copies of interesting books.
My Project
By providing my students with books they will actually want to read, you provide them with an opportunity to build their reading skills and help them develop a life-long love of reading and learning.
We need books they want to read, like Double Down (the new Wimpy Kid book), and Grimly's illustrated versions of classic literature.
By providing more and more access to popular new books, more and more of my students will be reading. If I could buy a copy of Double Down for every student in my school, I would -- but ten copies helps form a solid basis for library lending. We also need basic library supplies (labels, stands, display) to protect and promote the books! Having enough copies of a book that is in high demand means more students will READ!
While I make a point of getting new informational texts for my students, it's still vitally important that we support pleasure reading.
