Our 4th grade classroom is composed of a diverse group of students with a variety of learning needs. I have the opportunity to teach math and language arts to my students, and science to all of the 4th graders at the school. Reading is a primary focus at our school and these students are eager to participate in our whole school reading challenge. Our reading program tracks the total number of words each student has read during the school year and those that read 1 million words or more earn an award. I have a number of students who are striving to become word millionaires.
Science is a hands on subject and our classroom could utilize more tools for our science labs.
Hands on science labs are essential to learning the subject matter and allows students of all learning levels and needs access the matierial.
My Project
We were recently granted a set of prepared slides for science. In order to increase efficiency and allow greater access to my students, I'd like to increase the amount of microscopes in our laboratory. These dual eye piece microscopes double the amount of students who can view a slide at the same time. The use of a compound microscope is an essential skill to learn in science. I would like to be able to provide my students with the opportunity to dive into the world of science at a microscopic level. I believe hands on experiements is the best way to learn science and this donation would help achieve my desire to implement more interactive lessons.
