Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love and enjoy coming to school every day. I teach 24 wonderful and enthusiastic Kindergartners. A majority of my students are English Language Learners with Spanish or Vietnamese as their first language.
My school is a Title I school in San Jose, California.
A full 81 percent of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students may not have many material things, but they always try their best and never give up. They are hard workers, and I am so proud of my students!
My Project
I am requesting healthy play food and pots and pans for our empty playhouse. My students love and enjoy playing in the playhouse. Through play, my students will be able to learn about different types of healthy food and develop an awareness for healthy food. I believe that it is important to teach students healthy eating habits and how to choose healthy food at a young age.
These items will not only increase health awareness, but they will also help with vocabulary and oral development in Second Language Learners.
Students will learn about the different types of food groups and the different types of kitchen utensils. These items will also provide students with opportunities to speak in complete sentences which many of my students need.
