Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Special Education teacher in a high needs, inner city school. I teach K-2 special education students in "inclusion" settings.
My Kindergarten students are starting off behind their peers because they have already been identified as having special needs. Most of these students have little if any exposure to the alphabet. They need exposure and practice to learn the alphabet. My school does not have the Letter of the Day Pocket Chart or Alphabet books I am requesting.
The Letter of the Day Pocket Chart provides for daily, focused practice with every letter of the alphabet...giving children the reinforcement they need to really master each one. The chart comes with activities to explore each letter with a multi-sensory approach--- using chants, full-color photos, and a write & wipe surface for practice writing the targeted letter with a visual model. This chart can be used over and over on a daily basis to reinforce basic alphabet skills of letter recognition, letter sound recognition, and letter formation. The alphabet books offer vibrant photos and simple text to get the children involved in learning the alphabet as each letter is highlighted. These books can also be placed in a book basket for independent reading time after the letter has been introduced. These great items would help get my students off the the right start for the new school year.
Give my students the tools they need to succeed. You would make it possible for my struggling learners to begin developing basic alphabet skills, including letter recognition, letter sound recognition, and letter formation, in a fun, engaging manner provided by the pocket chart and books. These materials would also be used as intervention for targeted kindergarten students who are still struggling later in the school year.
