Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager to learn while doing and performing. They are eager to build simple machines, STEM activities that will help them understand and abstract comments. It is frustrating to them to try and learn in a traditional classroom, instead, they like to learn while doing.
We are a Title I school.
Our school is high poverty. The lack of parent involvement is primarily because both parents have to work to provide for their families. Most of the students belong to minorities. The whole school is on a free lunch program due to theses statistics. Most of these students try to learn but lack the resources and support from home. They are eager and want to learn but it is out of their hand to be consistent. The only learning experience happens at school.
My Project
Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are what will give our students the tools to become globally empowering and prepared. They need to experience these activities first hand to know how to compete in the real world. Many activities will be done with these materials. They will be constructing bridges, catapults, roller coaster simulators, simple machines and much more. This engages everyone, even those who struggle. Lots of research will go on during the planning and designing plan. They will have to know the how and why things work. In short, they will not only learn hot to build/construct, but they will incorporate research, reading, and justification or resources. It will be a complete unit plan. Popsicle stick and other kinds of art crafts can be implemented in science through engineering and math projects. Some of the projects will include the construction of simple machines, bridges, using our popsicle sticks, wood craft activity set and masking tape.
These materials will make the difference in the world.
It will improve students engagement and motivation to the max. Students will also understand real life examples and projects and how they work. Many of our students lack all these experiences, so bringing the realia to them, will provide them with the opportunity to experience first hand on how projects are started and carried on in the world. When students experience projects first hand, the motivation is automatically there.
